Christmas arrived in Kew on December 7th!!
On December 7th Kew’s local traders treated the local community to the annual Christmas festivities of “Kew Sparkle”.
The evening began when the stunning Christmas lights were switched on by none other than Father Christmas himself! The streets closed to traffic and Kew Village was transformed into a giant Christmas playground. The magical sound of children singing Christmas carols was provided by choirs from six local schools. Hundreds of local families revelled in the entertainment which included carousels, fabulous Ice Queen and Ice King stilt walkers, face-painting, hair-braiding, a ‘spot-the-ball’ competition, a treasure hunt, plenty of mouth-watering refreshments including a hog roast and mulled wine and, perhaps, most importantly, Santa’s Grotto.
The shops stayed open well into the night – many of them providing entertainment and refreshments to visitors by way of a thank you for their support and loyalty throughout the year. Outside, on the street, dozens of stallholders were offering a wonderful selection of gifts adding to the buzz of Christmas.
Each year, the local traders select a charity as a Kew Sparkle beneficiary. This year that charity was Momentum which helps children and the families of children, undergoing treatment for cancer in Surrey and South West London. Momentum was set up by parents who have first hand experience of these life-changing events, with the simple goal of trying to help others in similar circumstances.
The Kew Traders are thrilled to say the Kew Sparkle raised £3000 for Momentum!! How fantastic that Kew Sparkle brings such entertainment to the community as well as helping those less fortunate.
